A "Wilde" 24 Hours in LA for the Oscar Wilde Awards

It was the most spectacular evening, a whirlwind 24 hours in Los Angeles!

Pascal and I had been invited to attend the prestigious Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles leading up to the Oscar Awards. On Thursday morning, March 1st , our Delta Boeing 767 lifted off from JFK at 11 a.m. and arrived promptly at 2:30 pm.

As the trip was so short, we decided to stay at the Airport in the “H” by Hilton Boutique hotel, towering over the famous L.A.X. sign with runways on either side. Pascal made sure we were in a room with panoramic views, and honestly I could have been quite happy to move in and live there, airplane heaven!

However time was of the essence, we quickly showered, changed in to our “Green Carpet” outfits and soon were swallowed up by L.A. rush hour traffic as we made our way to J.J. Abrams, Bad Robot Studios.

The green carpet was already a blaze of flashes, as Pascal and I took our turn to walk it’s length. We then doubled back to meet with the gorgeous Irish actress, Sarah Bolger whose car was 10 minutes behind ours.

Sarah was wearing a THEIA mint green striped sequin jumpsuit hot off the Fall 2018 collection. Pascal spotted her arrive and was immediately at the car door, helping her out along with her mom and sister Emma. She took our breaths away, oozing Hollywood glam and utterly divine in the dazzling jumpsuit, huge hello hugs and kisses to both of us before turning her attention to fans who had gathered at the entrance to the carpet.  Sarah graciously signed dozens of autographs and posed for pics before heading on to the carpet.

The first picture was the two of us together taken especially for Bairbre Power of the Irish Independent, then Sarah moved solo down the line, until Pascal pulled us together, orchestrating several TV interviews (Pascal could earn millions as a PA to the stars). We were interviewed by Xpose and that clip aired nationwide in Ireland the following evening! Sarah’s lovely mum and sister waited patiently, they came out 2 weeks earlier and had celebrated Sarah’s birthday a few days earlier. Emma did Sarah’s flawless make-up.

As Sarah Walked the carpet we hung out with the lovely Trina Vargo the event organizer and head of the US Ireland Alliance. It was Trina who had invited us to attend. Trina introduced us to one of the most powerful agents in Hollywood, Hylda Queally who hails from County Clare, and to Kathy Griffin, the American Comedienne.

The carpet was buzzing with Stars,  most notably my hero Mark Hamill, my screen idol Luke Skywalker. We now have County Kerry in common!! Pascal asked Kathy Griffin if she could organize a photo with her dear friend Mark and he kindly obliged !! Woohoo!

Sarah was by far the best dressed of the evening and delighted in the attention her jumpsuit brought her. She told us she is busy working on a new project called the Mayan’s, a spin off from the popular series, The Sons of Anarchy.

We had actually met at this very event a year ago, when I admired her dress, not knowing who this beautiful young woman was,  and we chatted  for ages. I told her then if ever she needed a gown, I would be delighted to dress her.  She took me up on my offer in January for the IFTA’s in Dublin and wore a THEIA white sequin gown.

It was so lovely to be meeting her, a year later at this very event, and now this stunning young woman was wearing THEIA!!! For the second time in under a month.

We spent a lovely evening together, JJ Abrams is a gracious host, I had met him last year and he's a funny, kind, gentle man. I also met Catherine O’Hara again who is delightful (the mom from the Home Alone movies), Martin Short was hilarious as he presented Catherine with her award. We also met the lovely Victoria Smurfit and Colin Farrell. Diane Keaton, delightful as always is lovely. Ava DuVernay was in deep conversation with J.J.

Jet lag began to get the better of us at 11 p.m. but we knew that our dear friend from County Kerry, Marie Chawke had just arrived as she had seen our Instagram posts and asked how long we would be in town! We hadn't seen Marie since the wedding. As we were leaving at the crack of dawn we seized the opportunity and jumped in an Uber and headed from Santa Monica up to Hollywood to the Fabulous Roosevelt Hotel, across the street from The Oscars.

The hotel was buzzing with Oscar excitement as it's the staging  hotel for most of the stars attending.!! Marie was literally just in from Phoenix as she is touring the states promoting Dromoland Castle as part of the Worlds Luxury Preferred Hotels group.  She looked  amazing as always!! What a fabulous ambassador for Ireland, she ordered up a bottle of Veuve Cliqout, toasting the marvelous serendipity of meeting each other in Hollywood!!   We chatted till 1 a.m.

At 9 a.m, Friday morning we were boarding our Delta Boeing 767 returning to JFK after magical evening, filled with so many many fabulous memories.

Woohoo !!
